CNN and Careerbuilder just published an article on ten jobs that pay around $80,000 per year , such as attorneys, economists, associate actuaries, marketing managers, pharmacists, and veterinarians. The trouble with all of these jobs is that with rare exceptions they require a four-year college degree or more than that. But there is an 11th job that pays in the same…

GM Goodwrench has been running a series of radio ads that have gotten progressively more and more annoying until I can’t contain myself anymore and have to vent. They’ve all featured a rock song in the background with the lyrics “I can’t stop thinking about it”. The song is annoying enough, as though I and other motorists just can’t get…

Jeremy Hanks, co-founder and CEO of Doba.com, has a post regarding California’s Prop 8 and the call for boycotting Utah in its aftermath . I can’t agree more:
…to try to kill the Utah brand, you're as arrogant and bigoted as what you accuse the very organization you're trying to ruin. You're hypocritical. You're fighting for Gay rights at all costs, even if you end up eroding your own stated position of equality and minority rights and doing the very thing to other groups that you're so worked up over.
As much as those dismayed by Prop 8 passing are looking for someone to blame a boycott of an entire geographical region sho

I know I just posted something earlier this morning, but sometimes I find something so valuable I have to write about it right away.
That’s the case with a blog post I just came across titled “ How to get a publication to write about your business ” that was written recently by Jennifer Schiff.
Schiff is a 20-plus year veteran journalist, freelance writer, marketer and PR gal?who really knows her stuff. If you don’t believe me, check this out: you’ll find she’s got more than 300 35 bylined articles for Jupitermedia’s Ecommerce-Guide.com alone. See http://tinyurl.com/59tq86 . Yesterday I found out about Tweetdeck , an Adobe Air application for
managing twitter. Tweetdeck is much more than a way for watching
your tweet stream and posting tweets. Tweetdeck is a dashboard for
Twitter . You can create separate panels, for example, to follow
searches. Yesterday I was using it to follow three different
searches related to Internet Identity Workshop and seeing tweets from

This video conveys one thing I think a lot of people hesitate to do, say thank you when they see someone in uniform. It’s not because they aren’t thankful for the persons service, but maybe a little hesitant to say something out loud. Using the suggested gesture for Thank You can be all that is needed. It shows your support and doesn’t make it awkward for you or for them.
Please watch this video, and at the very least sign Thank You next time you see someone in uniform.
Thanks to Ash Buckles for sharing this via Twitter . Also don’t forget to support our troops at eMailOurMilitary .

Although Wired magazine may believe that blogging is dead (see “ Twitter, Flickr, Facebook Make Blogs Look So 2004 “), consumers haven’t apparently gotten the memo.
In fact, the results from a recently released study sponsored by BuzzLogic shows that blogs have a significant influence on purchasing decisions. (See “ Study” Blogging’s Dead? Someone Forgot to Tell Readers. ” and the BuzzLogic news release summarizing the research results.)
Key findings from the BuzzL

It’s been a long time coming - but NewspaperGirl has a custom Wordpress theme I wanted a cleaner,

I got a new headshot, thanks to Justin Hackworth, a destination wedding photographer who shot my wedding here on location in Utah (ha ha ha). I also found THE Wall Street Journal hedcut pro Kevin Sprouls to do a pen and ink drawing in true newspaper style.
I like the more natural, authentic look. In the beginning I was trying to get a certain look and maintain a certain distance. I

There’s some considerable blowback to the whole Proposition 8 deal in California, which is to be expected over such a controversial and hard fought initiative. But you now have a bunch of people talking about ‘boycotting Utah‘.

Congress recently enacted and the President signed into law the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008. Among other things, this new legislation included the extension of provisions of the Pension Protection Act of 2006 relating to IRA distributions to qualified charities. The provisions of the 2006 law (which expired at the end of 2007) now continue to be effective for distributions made in 2008 and 2009. Qualified distributions directly from an IRA to a charity are not reportable as taxable income to the taxpayer and the taxpayer takes no charitable deduction for contribution. Set forth below are the requirements that must be met:

For the last two months or so I’ve been using a Mac so I can be cool like the rest of the executives at my company. If you read my blog you know I’m not a huge Mac fan but I want to give an honest assessment of my Mac part 2 journey. Here we go…
Positives
Easy to use. Yes, Mac’s are easy to use but in my opinion PC’s are too. As a matter of fact, I have always questioned the intelligence of people who claim PC’s are hard or unintuitive to use.
Dock. I like the doc - it contributes to the overall ease of use of the system (system preferences are easy to navigate as well)
Expose/Hot corners. I love hot corners! What a great feature.
Keyboard.
iPhoto. iPhoto is a great application and I have enjoyed using it for photo editing.
Monitor. I love the monitor on my 15 inch MacBook Pro.

Today marks the 233rd birthday of the United States Marine Corps . That’s right, the Marine Corps is older than the nation itself. Organized on November 10, 1775 in Tun Tavern, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Marines have been defending our lands since before the Declaration of Independence . I served in the Marine Corps as a basic rifleman - the most fundamental function of all Marines. Fond memories come to me November 10th of every year. It was in the Corps that I learned about leadership. I learned the true meaning of teamwork, not some cheap corporate imitation facilitated by a consultant. I learned to lead by example and never ask someone to do someth
